COMPRIS
Consortium Operational Management Platform
River Information ServicesResearch project
in the 5th Framework, DG TREN EUCompleted:
December 2005COMPRIS was a pan-European
project, focussing on the development
and implementation of River Information
Services (RIS) on the inland waterways
in Europe. The project was launched
in September 2002 and finished by the
end of 2005. It was funded by the Directorate-General
for Energy and Transport (DG TREN) of
the European Commission. The COMPRIS
consortium consisted of 44 partners
from 11 European countries. The project
was co-ordinated by AVV Transport Research
Centre of the Ministry of Transport
in the Netherlands. The part of Periskal
consisted out of equipping a test fleet
of approximately 50 vessels all over
Europe with navigation systems. These
ships were used as demonstrators.
MARNIS
Maritime Navigation and Information
Services
Research project in the 6th Framework,
DG TREN EU
Completed: 2007
MarNIS is an Integrated Research Project
in the 6th Frame Work Programme, bringing
together 50 partners to develop Maritime
Navigation and Information Services
on a pan – European basis. The
MarNIS consortium comprises a wide spectrum
of experienced partners and subcontractors
who will endeavour to find innovative
global and European solutions for operations
and activities performed and experienced
daily in the maritime sector. Periskal
had been involved in this project in
Workspace 5,2. The main purpose consisted
out of transmitting way related information
to vessels, hydro meteo information
and ENC chart updates as well. Periskal
focussed on the so called mixed areas
in which inland shipping and maritime
shipping operate.
RISING
Research project in the 7th Framework,
DG TREN EU Execution 2009-2012
One of the main objectives of the RISING
project is to exploit existing RIS services
and data for logistic purposes. The
project takes care of a better integration
of Inland Waterway Transport into the
logistics chain. It deals with planning
processes (e.g. route planning, vessel
and barge scheduling, voyage planning,
fleet optimisation) as well as monitoring
processes (e.g. ETA updates, tracking
& tracing, SCEM). Periskal is responsible
for the development of a logistic web
portal.

Hymedis
Completed: 2007 (support services ongoing)
Customer: Schelderadar
Hymedis is a distribution centre for
hydro-meteo information located in Vlissingen.
Two monitoring networks (Vlaamse banken
and Zege) send up-to-date information
on water level, wind, current, etc.
to this centre on a continual basis.
This information is processed and via
wireless and fixed communication offered
to the pilots, official vessels and
quay stations active in the area.Periskal
has developed a supplementary option
Hymedis within the basic navigation
software assigned for government vessels.
Periskal provides also support of software
and charts on yearly basis for these
navigation systems.For further information

SIF Project France
realised and in maintenance phase
Customer: VNF (Voies Navigables de France)
The partnership Periskal – Crup
has won the tender for the setup of
RIS (River Information Services) in
Northern France and the Seine. The project
includes a diversity of aspects such
as the construction of an AIS base station
network, the equipment of approximately
20 ships, the setup of an internet web
portal, etc. Various shipping companies
such as CFT, Cemex and private skippers
were invited to take part into the project.
AIS and on board navigation software
are an essential part in the project.
The various locks on the route will
get access to the data of the ships
e.g. position, expected time of arrival,
sizes, etc. They are also able to send
information back. Different logistic
parties participate as well in the project
in order to promote the waterway transport.
The SIF project is a cooperation between
VNF and the Wallonian waterway executive.
The project is funded by the EU within
the framework of RIS. For the partnership
Periskal – CRUP it is a very significant
project and a recognition for the knowledge
of both companies on the score of River
Information Services.
